GM Renaissance Center Receives Energy Star Certification

The General Motors Renaissance Center received an Energy Star certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based on energy efficiency achieved by General Motors, its building management partner, Hines, and DTE Energy.

EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson, called Energy Star buildings such as the Ren Cen, “America’s energy all-stars”.  Buildings earn the Energy Star certification for scoring in the top 25 percent on an energy performance rating system.

Energy use at the Ren Cen has been reduced annually by more than 13 million kWh, saving nearly a million dollars.

“At General Motors, we believe that managing energy use is a vital part of our business,” said David Skiven, executive director, GM Worldwide Facilities Group.  “Smart energy decisions are not only good for the environment; they are good for the bottom line.”

GM has reduced energy use by 25 percent at its North American facilities over the past five years.
