Enter for Your Chance to Win a Piece of Unique Detroit History!
The General Motors Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series has partnered with Wallace Guitars in celebration of the event’s tenth anniversary to create a one-of-a-kind guitar commemorating this milestone year. Founded in 2014 by Mark Wallace, Wallace Detroit Guitars creates quality instruments from reclaimed wood of Detroit buildings, and now is your chance to own a piece of rockin’ Detroit history!
The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy will raffle the guitar and the proceeds will benefit the Conservancy. $10 tickets will be available soon. To stay informed on when tickets become available, log on to www.detroitriverfront.org/rockin-raffle-2015.
Here are a few fun facts about this custom-made six string:
- HISTORY: The wood in the GM Rockin’ on the Riverfront commemorative guitar was pulled from the old Cadillac stamping plant located at 9501 Connor Street in Detroit.
- AESTHETIC: The guitar is cut on a CNC router and features historic stains, nail holes and scars highlighting the wood’s history and giving it an raw Detroit feel. It is finished by hand with nitrocellulose lacquer.
- TIME: The guitar was handcrafted in 12 hours.
- QUANTITY: Wallace Detroit Guitars launched in October 2014 and has sold 52 guitars to-date. This commemorative guitar is the fifty-third.
- UNIQUENESS: The guitar commemorates the tenth anniversary with a special pick guard featuring the concert series logo and a collection of autographs from the seven 2015 headliners.
- FUNCTIONALITY: The reclaimed wood in this guitar comes from old-grown forests, and offers great density for resonance. Plus, all Wallace Detroit guitars feature modern electronics. Simply put, it produces a similar sound to the classic guitars of the 1950s and 1960s.
